What does a bike repair cost in Berlin? Price factors explained
In short: Bike repair costs vary mainly with the degree of wear, part quality, how accessible the components are and how much diagnosis is needed. Small jobs usually land around €15–20, larger ones around €45–80. The binding price list lives on our prices page.
"What will it cost?" is the most common question at the workshop counter — and the honest answer is: it depends. This guide explains which factors really drive the price of a bike repair, and how to estimate the cost realistically before you drop your bike off.
What drives the price of a bike repair?
Degree of wear — the biggest cost driver
A chain replaced early costs a fraction of a fully worn drivetrain. Ride too long and you pay for chain, cassette and chainring instead of just the chain.
Part quality and component tier
An entry-level derailleur, a Shimano 105 groupset and an electronic shifting system differ a lot in material cost — while the labour involved is often similar.
How accessible things are on the bike
Internally routed cables, hub gears, belt drives, cargo bikes and e-bikes take more steps than a classic derailleur bike. That shows up as labour time.
Your own parts vs. workshop parts
If you bring your own part, you only pay for fitting — at a slightly higher labour rate, because we don't earn on the material. If the part comes from us, fitting is cheaper. The totals usually end up close.
Diagnosis effort
A clearly named fault (flat tyre, chain) can be quoted instantly. A vague noise or an intermittent shifting fault takes search time — that's where a written cost estimate makes sense.
Berlin everyday riding
Road salt in winter, cobblestones, broken glass and rain noticeably increase wear compared to a bike ridden mostly in the dry.

To the price overviewHow to estimate the cost realistically
- Describe the symptom, not the diagnosis. Tell us what you hear and feel, not what you think is broken. That saves search time and money.
- Mention age and mileage. A city bike ridden daily for three years typically needs more than the one repair you came in for.
- State your budget early. Then we prioritise safety-critical work first and postpone cosmetics.
- Use the diagnosis. The short diagnosis at drop-off is free — you decide on approval afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't you give an exact price over the phone?
Without seeing the bike, the state of wear can't be judged. We're happy to give a range on the phone — the binding price comes after the free diagnosis at drop-off.
What makes a repair more expensive than expected?
Usually knock-on damage: a worn chain has taken the cassette with it, a bent derailleur hanger has damaged the derailleur, seized bearings need special tools. That's why acting early almost always pays off.
When is a repair no longer worth it?
As a rule of thumb: when the repair clearly exceeds the bike's residual value and the frame or fork are affected. For well-kept brand bikes and cargo bikes, repair is almost always worthwhile.
How can I keep repair costs down?
Regular care, get the chain measured in time, rinse the bike after salty winter rides, and book one inspection a year. That's far cheaper than replacing a whole drivetrain.
When do I need a written cost estimate?
Whenever an insurer is involved or the damage is unclear and extensive. Ours is a €50 flat fee; the short diagnosis at drop-off is free.
