Cargo bike (Lastenrad) repair in Berlin-Kreuzberg — mechanical service for cargobikes
In short: We repair cargo bikes (Lastenräder) of all common brands in Kreuzberg — full mechanical service including brakes, gears, tyres and frame. Motor/battery diagnostics go through the manufacturer. Book via WhatsApp, drop off and collect directly at the shop.
Cargo bikes (Lastenräder) are booming in Berlin — as a family car substitute, for delivery services or the weekend shop at Marheinekemarktplatz. But when the brake rubs, the chain skips or the rear tyre is flat, the question arises: where do you actually get a cargobike repaired in Berlin? Not every workshop has the space or experience for Long Johns, trikes or box bikes. At BikeShop Friesen at Friesenstraße 24 in Kreuzberg we repair all mechanical components on cargo bikes — quickly, fairly and without brand restrictions.

Why cargo bikes need special care
A cargo bike weighs 30–50 kg when empty; with children, a dog or a week's shopping it quickly reaches 100 kg or more. You can see this load on every component — treating a Lastenrad like a normal city bike leads to problems sooner than necessary.
Brakes
Brake pads wear significantly faster on cargo bikes — especially in Berlin with stop-and-go at every junction. Check every 1,000–1,500 km; on e-cargobikes even more often. Hydraulic brakes should be bled roughly once a year.
Drivetrain (chain & cassette)
A cargo bike chain often lasts only 1,000–2,000 km — on e-cargo sometimes less. Replacing it in time saves the cassette and chainring. We measure chain stretch free of charge when you drop by.
Tyres & tyre pressure
Too little pressure under full load is the most common cause of punctures. Rule of thumb: aim for the upper end of the printed range (bar figure on the tyre sidewall). Schwalbe Marathon Plus or Pick-Up are the most robust tyres for Berlin's cobblestones.
Bolts & connections
On cargo bikes bolts loosen through vibration more quickly — especially on the box, handlebars, bench seat and child seats. Check with a torque wrench every few weeks. We check this automatically as part of every service.
Which cargobike brands we repair
We are brand-neutral and repair all common models mechanically. Frequently seen in our workshop:
- Urban Arrow (Family, Shorty, Tender)
- Babboe (City, Curve, Big, Mini)
- Bullitt / Larry vs Harry
- Riese & Müller Load / Packster (mechanical)
- Yuba Mundo, Spicy Curry
- Tern GSD, HSD, Quick Haul
- Bakfiets.nl, Christiania, Nihola (trike)
- Muli, Ca Go, Vello Sub
Different brand? Just ask — it's almost always standard technology (Shimano, SRAM, Magura, Tektro) that we work with.

FAQ: cargo bike repair in Berlin
Do you repair all cargo bike brands?
Yes, all common cargobike brands: Urban Arrow, Babboe, Bullitt, Riese & Müller (mechanical), Larry vs Harry, Yuba, Tern, Christiania, Nihola, Bakfiets.nl and many more. Mechanical work on two- and three-wheelers, with or without a box.
Do you have space for cargo bikes in the workshop?
Yes. We have dedicated spots for cargo bikes — including long Long John models. For larger repairs please give us a quick call or WhatsApp message so we can reserve a space.
How long does a cargo bike repair take?
Inner tube changes, brake adjustments or chain replacements often take 30–60 minutes — if there's space, you can wait and take the bike with you. Larger jobs or full services usually need 1–2 working days.
Do you repair e-cargo bikes too?
All mechanical components on e-cargobikes: brakes, gears, tyres, chain, wheels. Motor diagnostics, battery repairs or drivetrain software updates (Bosch, Shimano EP8, Brose) are not something we do — those require an authorised dealer.
What does a cargo bike service cost?
A full service (brakes, gears, drivetrain, tyres, bolt check, full adjustment) starts from around €75. For heavily used cargo bikes we recommend a service 1–2 times a year.
Can I bring my cargo bike without an appointment?
Mornings (9–12) are our quietest time — feel free to drop by without an appointment. For larger cargo bike jobs in the afternoon please book a slot by phone or WhatsApp first.
